Welcome to NoDa! One of Charlotte's most unique districts and neighborhoods -- artsy, funky, and urban all describe the area...check these photos out to get a feel for this fantastic part of the city.
The NoDa neighborhood originally housed three large textile mills -- The Mecklenburg Mill, The Johnson Mill, and Highland Mill. Surrounding those mills, as was common at the time (100 years ago), were mill homes owned by the companies and used ot house the workers. Company stores, and other businesses, lined North Davidson Street. The area, at that time, was called North Charlotte. Over time the area became known as North Davidson for the main street that runs through and finally it's been shorted to NoDa.
Artists flocked to this area in the 1980's and were drawn by the commercial spaces for galleries and the cool and funky mill homes which were quite inexpensive at the time. What originally were identical mill homes have often been transformed into works of art themselves and you'll see photos of many of them below.
Today NoDa, or The Arts District as it is also known, has a mix of condos, homes (old and new), and thriving new business. Many unique bars and restaurants can be found in the area and every 1st and 3rd Friday the district hosts a gallery crawl.

These are all snapshots taken on walks through the neighborhood or sent by friends. I hope they show the great diversity and artistic vibe of this great enclave in Charlotte. If you'd like a real tour let me know -- I'm always up for taking a walk or a spin through NoDa.
